The Holcomb House offers open house every Second Friday from 9:00am – 12:00pm and

every Fourth Sunday from 1:00pm – 3:00pm

All events occur at the Holcomb House

March 24, 2024 – The Johnson Historical Society will host an Open House at the Carriage Room of the Holcomb House, 188 Main Street East, Johnson on March 24th from 1 to 3 pm. The Carriage Room was formerly the home’s garage and has been used for storage until recently. Members have been organizing the space to show-off many items from their extensive collection. There are harnesses, a calligraphy machine, an abundance of vintage rakes and other farm implements, interesting signage, and so much more. There is a lot to see in the Carriage Room as well as on the main floor of the Holcomb House. All are welcome. It is free. Questions call Lois at 802 635 7826.

April 28, 2024 – A program featuring Albert Nadeau’s local business with a narrated slide show hosted by Mary Jean Smith from 1:00pm – 3:00pm. Special guests include Nadeau family members!

May 17, 2024 (tentatively) – Join us for the 2024 Antiques Roadshow and Appraisal Day from 1:00pm – 4:00pm at the Holcomb House!

 

 

 

 

Past Events

February 25, 2024: The Johnson Historical Society will host a History of Quilting talk by Andrea Blaisdell on Sunday, 25 February 2024 at 2 PM at the Holcomb House, 188 Main Street East, Johnson. The talk will cover the origins and history of quilting and will feature examples of antique quilts. Andrea brings many years of quilting experience and knowledge to the program. She has been an active member of the Quilt Association for more than   years. Participants are invited to bring one of their heritage quilts to show-off to other quilt enthusiasts. The Holcomb House will open at 1 pm. All are welcome. Free.

March 26, 2023 at 2:00pm – The Historical Society will host Ben and Stacy Waterman as they discuss their participation in the Peace Corp.

April 23, 2023 at 2:00pm – Alice Whiting leads a presentation on the history of the Oread Club

May 21, 2023 at 2:00pm – Garden Party!

The Johnson Historical Society presents “Shopping in Johnson in the 1950’s and 1960’s” on Sunday, September 24, 2023 at 2 pm.  Dean West and Bob West grew up on Main Street and will talk about the different stores that were there; the services they provided, the choices of merchandise available, and the people who kept the businesses interesting. Both worked at the Grand Union so can share their memories of working there too. The program will take place at the Holcomb House, 188 Main Street East in Johnson. All are welcome to this free event.  Cookies will be served. Doors open at 1 PM.  Information: Linda Jones at 802 635 7401.

January 28, 2024 from 1:00pm – 3:00pm – The Historical Society will host an open house with a program starting at 2:00pm. Duncan Hastings will be speaking about the history of blacksmithing!

Holiday Festival

December 6 from 4-7 as part of the Johnson Holiday Festival the Historical Society will be open serving cookies and cider.  There will be Holiday Stories read to children who attend under the tree.
